*Bombadeira– The pain of the beauty*

Bombadeiras.

That’s the title given to transvestites who illegally insert
silicone on their clients’ body in order to modify it. This
symbolic universe of death and rebirth, in which a life cycle is
ended in order to start an other one, is reveled by the director Luis
Carlos de Alencar in his documentary Bombadeira,
registering the myth of the “madrinhas” (godmothers) in the
transvestite imaginary, and its importance in the construction of an
identity.

Many times, this painful and dramatic illegal performance is the only way
to have access to an ideal female body. The silicone is applied in
the buttocks, breast, face and, sometimes knees.
Who are they? How do they live? What do they desire? Luis
Carlos de Alencar shows their lives, homes, routine, love
relationships, and their worries regarding to esthetics in the
transvestite group in Salvador City, Bahia. Though many amazing
interviews, the film dives into this universe and revels the other
side of their unknown reality and the segregation daily suffered by
the transvestites.
